The 51视频Workforce and Community Development office offers a variety of noncredit, lifelong learning classes for personal enrichment and professional development. You may be familiar with lifelong learning classes as noncredit or continuing education. These are classes you might take just for fun, to learn a new skill, to meet other people, or even to help you advance your career. Lifelong learning classes are open to the public, ages 18 and up.
Registration for all programs closes two business days before the start of each class, unless noted in the class description. Class sizes are limited and some classes may fill before the closing date. We recommend registering early to reserve your seat.
Registration is available over the phone 865.539.7167 during business hours or at any time.
When registering online, each individual registering for a class will need to create a separate account with a unique email and password. If you are a 51视频faculty, staff or student, please note that the account you will be asked to create or sign in to during online registration is not connected to your myPellissippi account and will need to be created separately.
Classes are open to ages 18 and up, unless otherwise noted in the class description. Those under the age of 18 must receive approval from Workforce and Community Development by emailing wcd@pstcc.edu and must be accompanied by an adult who is also registered for the class.
Payment for a noncredit program must be paid by credit card or check at the time of registration. State employee, senior citizen and disabled fee waiver policies and financial aid do not apply to noncredit programs.
Classes with cash material fees payable to the instructor are noted and are due upon arrival to the class. Classes that require the participant to bring their own supplies will have the supply list posted on the class’s registration webpage. We recommend keeping receipts for the supplies you purchase in case the class is canceled due to low enrollment or weather.
In-person classes are held at one of Pellissippi State’s four campuses in Knox and Blount counties. The location of each class will be specified in the class description and details. You will receive an email a few days prior to the start of your class with the building and classroom location.
Parking on campus is free in any of the open “O” lots or the Visitor’s Lot.
Virtual classes are held on Zoom and are instructor-led, which means you’ll connect with our instructor and class in real-time through the audio and webcam functions on your device. From the comfort of your own home, you are still able to learn by doing, ask questions and get immediate feedback. You will receive an email a few days prior to the start of your class with more instructions and the link to join the class on Zoom.
Class sizes are limited and some classes may fill before the closing date. Joining a waitlist does not guarantee a spot in the class, and does not carry over to future class sessions. The Workforce and Community Development staff will only contact those on the waitlist if a cancellation occurs.
Cancellation of your enrollment must be requested more than seven days (five business days) before the class start date to receive a full refund. Class cancellations and requests to reschedule or transfer your registration follow this policy:
Some classes have earlier deadlines for cancellation or reschedule requests. These deadlines will be noted in the class’s description. You may not reschedule or transfer your registration less than five business days prior to the start of the class. No refunds or reschedules are given for canceling, dropping or not showing up to a class after the class has started.
All refunds will be issued back to the card or form of payment that was used to originally register for the class. Please allow three to five business days for processing.
Appeal Process: Only under extreme, extenuating circumstances would an appeal granting a full or partial refund beyond the terms of this policy be considered. Individuals requesting an appeal must do so in writing by emailing wcd@pstcc.edu within 30 days of the start date of the program, stating their reason, providing supporting documentation (e.g., medical note from doctor, accident report, etc.) and including program name and start date. Appeals will be reviewed and responded to in writing within five to seven business days.
The College reserves the right to cancel, postpone or combine classes and to substitute qualified instructors when necessary. All classes require minimum enrollments and may be canceled if enrollment is not met. If your class is canceled by the College, the Workforce & Community Development office will contact you via email and phone call, and a full refund will be given. Weather delays and cancellations follow the 51视频 directives. Weather-related announcements will be posted on the College’s Facebook page, and also the College website.
Noncredit programs are held rain or shine. If a noncredit program must be postponed or cancelled due to inclement weather, participants will receive both an email and phone call notifying them about change prior to the start of the class.
This four-hour parent education course is mandated and approved by the state of Tennessee. The program is designed to help divorcing and separating couples focus on the best interests of their children and learn to work cooperatively and effectively. All instructors have a master’s degree or higher in social work, psychology, child and family studies or a related field, or are Rule 31-certified mediators for the state of Tennessee. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure the court will accept this training and certificate of completion for their situation.
Our Parenting & Divorce seminars are held virtually on Zoom. Certificates will be emailed to the email address given on your registration form within 1-2 business days after the successful completion of the course. 100% participation is required to receive the court ordered certification of completion for the course. No shows and non-participation must pay the full registration fee again to re-enroll in course class. Each person needing a certificate of completion must register for the course separately.
Participants who satisfactorily complete a motorcycle safety course will be issued a Motorcycle Safety Foundation® completion card, which can help reduce insurance costs. License waiver courses may exempt participants from the state’s required written and riding test when applying for a motorcycle license.
Participants must be age 15 or older. Those under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present at the first day of class to sign a release form to take the class.
Cancellations or rescheduling for motorcycle safety courses must be made seven days prior to the start of the course. Cancellations and reschedule requests less than seven days before the start of the class will forfeit the full course registration fee of the class. Rescheduling requests less than seven days before the start of the class will also incur an additional $150 rescheduling fee. Please be aware that if you cancel or reschedule before the seven-day deadline, but after you begin the e-course, you will forfeit the $39.99 portion of your registration fee for the e-course. Visit our website for more information about the cancellation and refund policy.
If the instructor feels a student is not progressing or is being dangerous to themselves or others, the instructor may ask the student to leave at any time during the class. A student who does not complete the class satisfactorily should not expect a refund.
Do you have a passion for sharing your hobby or expertise with the community? Consider teaching a class! Some of the many benefits include working with enthusiastic adult learners and flexible class scheduling. Instructors are expected to have a high level of expertise in the subject of their proposed class and some experience in teaching or training others.
How to apply:
Class proposals may be submitted at any time, but are reviewed twice a year: August through September for the upcoming spring semester, and March through April for the upcoming fall semester. New classes are chosen based on community interest and program needs. Submitting a class proposal does not guarantee it will be accepted. Classes must be educational and instructional, and are not permitted to solicit or promote a business or contracted services. Please contact wcd@pstcc.edu if you have any questions.
